On May 14, 2022, the Tip of the Mitt held its FIRST IN-PERSON Annual Meeting at the Inn at Bay Harbor! The agenda included networking and brunch, along with dynamic guest speakers, Marcella Costin, a Northern Michigan entrepreneur, and Chris Krajewski, who currently serves as the Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Program Director with the Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan. Attendees played “Legal Jeopardy”, organized by Events Committee member, Jennifer France. The Honorable Valerie K. Snyder, WLAM member, also swore in the new 2022 – 2023 Board members.
Newly sworn Tip of the Mitt Region President, Amber L. Libby, is a Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Cheboygan County, MI. At the Annual Meeting, she spoke on realities, goals, and encouragements of the Tip of the Mitt Region looking forward.
The 2022 Emelia C. Schaub Pioneer Award recipient was Shelley Kester! Shelley’s father, Patrick Wilson, accepted the award on her behalf. Shelley A. Kester is an award-winning attorney in Northern Michigan and a business owner as the President and Owner of Wilson Kester; a law firm with a staff of 13 – comprised of largely women lawyers, paralegals, law clerks, and administrative staff. The Traverse City Business News, naming Shelley as one of the 50 women leaders in business, recognized Shelley’s leadership as a woman business owner. Shelley is a Leelanau County resident – like Emelia Schaub – and she has contributed to the legal profession serving as past president of the Grand Traverse-Leelanau-Antrim Bar Association, a member of the Michigan Supreme Court Bar, and Board Member of Women Lawyer’s Association of Michigan. Shelley’s father, Pat Wilson, who accepted the Award on her behalf previously practiced throughout his law career in Northern Michigan with Emelia C. Schaub.
On June 23, 2022, Tip of the Mitt Region President Amber Libby kicked off her term with an in-person meeting at CRAVE in Gaylord! Over the summer months, in addition to official business, the Region will discuss various topic from the book, Professional Troublemaker: The Fear-Fighters Manual, by Luvvie Ajayi Jones. The first discussion was a success and region members were able to gain insight about each other and themselves. President Libby will spice up the monthly meetings by varying the location each month. This will give members an opportunity to explore and enjoy Northern Michigan and visit each other’s communities!
