Oakland | WBA Update Spring 2022

The Women’s Bar Association (WBA) has continued to work together to continue to advance women in the legal profession and give back to our community. We kicked off the New Year with a New Year’s group Peloton ride. We have continued our monthly Bar Briefs happy hour, virtually in January and February. In February, Bar Briefs was a joint event with the MSU College of Law Women’s Law Caucus, and WBA members were able to mingle and network. We are also in the process of strengthening our pipeline process and mentoring program by developing authentic and continuing relationships with law students.

WBA hosted a seminar on financial literacy for women in February. We were joined virtually by Certified Financial Planner Melissa Joy, who provided tips and tools for financial planning, investing, retirement, and more.

We have continued our monthly book club, where we read “Radium Girls: The Dark Story of AMerica’s Shining Women” by Kate Moore in January and “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” by Rebecca Skloot in February. Our next book will be “Fly Girls: How Five Daring Women Defied All Odds and Made Aviation History” by Keith O’Brien,” and all are welcome to attend.

Our next upcoming event is our monthly Bar Briefs on March 9, which will be joint with the Incorporated Society of Irish American Lawyers at Irish Tavern in Madison Heights.  Other upcoming events in March include a fitness event on March 24 and our book club meeting on March 31. Our next board meeting will be held virtually on April 6, and all are welcome to attend.  We will be hosting our Table for Eight dinner virtually on April 12 with special guest Ebony Duff of Garan Lucow Miller. Also save the date for our Annual Dinner on May 26 at the Birmingham Athletic Club. We have exciting plans in the works for additional programming and great opportunities for our members. Be sure to sign up for our email list and follow us on social media to become involved with the WBA!
